Who and why

My name is Paul Wood. I just turned 32 on St Patrick's Day 2011 and I'm writing this blog as a kind of diary of my experiences training for the Gobi Challenge - 6 days running over 100 miles in the Mongolian desert in late July of this year. I've never considered myself a serious runner, but somehow I've found myself in a position to attempt something most people would define as requiring practically superhuman endurance. It won't, or at least if it does I won't be making it across the finish line. However, it will be one of the toughest challenges I've ever taken on and I thought it might be interesting to document the process I'm going through to try to turn myself from useful 5K charity runner to ultra distance event competitor.
